Clemens Brentano
Clemens Brentano (08.09.1778 - 28.07.1842) was born in Ehrenbreitenstein near Koblenz.
For his training to be completed in Langensalza he showed only little interest. He more liked to pose with the ladies, where he dressed very flashily (parrot-green skirt, red waistcoat and peach-colored trousers). His stay in Langensalza lasted only from 1795 to 1796. A commemorative plaque - At the Marktkirche 10 - in the house "Zum Prinzen" - reminds of that.
In Halle he studied civil-service sciences, in Jena medicine and philosophy in Göttingen. Brentano knew Goethe, Wieland and Fichte. His best friend became Achim von Arnim with whom he published the song collection "Des Knaben Wunderhorn". He passed away in Aschaffenburg.
