Hiking and bike tour to the "Unstruttal"

Difficulty: suitable in several stages for children, no gradients
Lenght: about 23 km
On foot: about 6 hours

View to the "Ritschen"
The "Unstruttal" is located between the small towns Nägelstedt and Grossvargula. The valley is shaped by its different flora and fauna. At the entry to the nature reserve "Unstruttal" is the "Lohmühle" (mill). Directly behind the mill is the starting point of different living spaces, such as „Auwaldrelikte“, moist and litter fruit meadows, source fields, dry and semidry lawns, given up quarries and foliage mixed wood that extend to Grossvargula. In the valley one hits the most different animal species as for example roe deer, foxes, owls, falcons and red kites.

Along the river Unstrut
Downstream the Unstrut extend on the left the floodplain and the former vineyards (Ritschen). Pheasant´s eye, „Pestwurze“, cowslips, bee orchis, silver thistles, swamp orchis, gentians and many other plants under nature conservation, are a feast for the eyes to the respective period of bloom. This route is the accessibility to the "Unstrut" valley cycle track which begins at the "Unstrut" origin in Kefferhausen (near Mühlhausen) and leads to the Saale up to the delta of the Unstrut (near Naumburg).
