Path to the "Thiemsburg"
The "Thiemsburg" is located between Zimmern and Craula, in the city forest of Bad Langensalza. It was gained as an old forest good by the cloister Homburg in 1143. The "Thiemsburg" became later an hospitable forester's house which was a popular place for excursions of small towns around it. The new constructed forest playground is center of attraction for family excursions.
Nature trail to the "Thiemsburg"
The new constructed forest playground is center of attraction for family excursions. An especially impressive sight offers the pond sited at the edge of the forest to the "Hainich" with its animal and plant world every season. The natural path which begins at the ponds of the "Thiemsburg" is informative for everyone. Direction signs give us the possibility, to adopt different hiking routes and invite us to long walks through this nature reserve.
Route description (Cycle track)
Starting point car park visitor-information (Friedrich-Mann-Straße) - along the "Kurpark" - pass the "Klagetor" - further on to the "BUND Burgturm" until the end of the parking area - over the crossroad in direction hot springs to the end of the "Böhmenstraße" - left into the "Im Jacobifeld" to the "Thamsbrücker“ highway - cross this into the "Homburger Weg" - here turn left to the tennis courts - pass the stadion - cross the highway into the "Thiemsburger Weg" - further along the path - pass the district Zimmern on your left side - cross the highway - follow the creek in the valley along the "Waagebalkenweg" to the "Thiemsburg" - back the same way
