Trail to the "Harth"

Difficulty

medium

Length

about 16 km + 2,5 km loop trail

On foot

about 5 hours + 1 to 1,5 hours loop trail

A view over Bad Langensalza

Our excursion to the Harth takes us along the "Golken" which are outside of the district Ufhoven. The "Golken" are sinks and there are about 20 of them in the "Hainich". Some are dry others are watered, for example the „Large“ and the „Small Golk“. The „Small Golk“ is larger than the „Large Golk“, because it supplies more water. It donates 240 l of drinking water per second. Its deepest part is 4,50 m. The water has a permanent temperature of 7 C°, therefor it does not freeze in the winter. The water is used as drinking water for our city Bad Langensalza. The „Large Golk“ is located 200 m in the west of the „Small Golk“ and supplies about 100 l of water per second.

„Harth-Haus“

Our tour leads us to the „Harth-Haus“ with the help of direction signs. This was a former port custom house in the times of German sectionalism. Later it was used for sales of drinks for traders, travellers and hikers coming by. Also today one can  be served here. After a stabilization one drew again strength for an exciting loop road of 2,5 km around the Harth-Haus.

"Gutbierdenkmal" (memorial)

Orientating at the set up hiking card the way passes the „Damwildgehege“, above a timber bridge up to the "Gutbierdenkmal". This memorial was set up in honor of Hermann Gutbier (1842 - 1936). He earned it for his work as a city archivist of Bad Langensalza. From the Harth the possibility to explore small cylindrical hiking ways exists for those ones who like to go on.
