A View to the „Kleinbahnweg“

This path leads partial along the former „Kleinbahnweg“. The small railroad was formerly the combination of individual villages to the city Bad Langensalza and was put out of operation in the sixties for economical reasons. At the end of the nineties it was extended to a bike- and hiking way and has a great reception. During this ride one can enjoy the wonderful landscape of the large valley of Thuringia.

On the trail

On the way small rest places invite to unpack the provisions of the rucksack to take a break. Freshly fortified we can go on and our attention refers back to the wide fields and cultivated hill landscapes, up to the horizon, where with good weather the southern ridge of the forest of Thuringia  with the "Inselsberg" (island mountain) is recognizable. At other places the foreland of the "Harz" is to be seen in northern direction. At the end of the loop road, along the village Haussömmern on the highway, the possibility withstands to visit the "Edelhof" in Mittelsömmern. According to tradition this building is supposed to have been built as a water castle and was used later as a manor house of the most different nobility sexes for centuries. It is supposed to be achieved by redevelopment that this important culture-historically building is maintained for the posterity.
