Grosswelsbach

This local part is 8,4 km far away from the cure city Bad Langensalza and counts 346 inhabitants. On 01.01.1994 Grosswelsbach was incorporated.

The village is a churchvillage with a manor. Along the creek upwards leads a highway to Kleinwelsbach. One can admire some picturesque groups of trees there.

The first certificated mention occurred in the year 1195. The cloister Germerode had a convent in Grosswelsbach and had extensive estates of the country. In 1578 Hans Berlepsch acquired the cloister  and this stayed long as a manor in the possession of his family. The church St. Blasii was built of Grenzdolomit, a special stone, its precise age is unknown. However, at the huge tower which was also used as a peel the date 1503 is written in Gothic majuscules.
